Emergency Department Renovation
Emergency Department Renovation
Frankfort Regional Medical Center is currently in the process of an $8.4 million renovation to its existing Emergency Department, expanding from 18 to 28 beds to more effectively meet the medical needs of the communities we serve. The project is expected to take approximately 18 months to complete, beginning in 2012.
The design of the department will enable our staff to have quick access to the patient at all times. The traffic flow of patients and all pertinent staff and related medical equipment/supplies is designed to provide efficiency and safety, with particular attention to the ease in mobility of patients requiring immediate or life-threatening care. All lifesaving equipment will be quickly accessible at all times.
Flow of Patients through an Emergency Department
The entrance to the Emergency Department will be clearly marked with an illuminated “Emergency” sign. There will be two separate entrances; one for ambulatory patients and/or patients arriving by private vehicle, and an entrance for use by patients arriving by ambulance. The patient may arrive with or without prior notification to the Emergency Department staff. A well-lit parking lot with handicap accessible parking spaces is located immediately adjacent to the building. There will be a covered patient drop-off area for the convenience of our patrons.
Triage is provided to assess the patient’s condition and degree of urgency. If immediate care is necessary, the patient will be taken directly to the appropriate treatment room.
Patients arriving by ambulance who are in need of immediate treatment will be moved to a major trauma room or treatment room. The existing ambulance entrance is a fully-lit covered area.
Enhancement to Diagnostic Imaging Capabilities
In addition to the work being completed on the Emergency Department, a new computerized tomography room (CT scanner) will be added across the hall in the new construction area. All walls are lead shielded to provide isolation/protection to personnel adjacent to the room. A dressing room will be provided directly off of the main entrance into the CT. Several offices for the Imaging Department will also be developed.
A new ramp will be provided to access the MRI center located behind the ED waiting room.
