BREAST CARE CENTER
The Breast Care Center brings together all of the equipment needed for breast care health, including prevention and early detection of breast cancer and other diseases of the breast. Our comprehensive center offers digital mammography, ultrasound, sentinel lymph node biopsy, and stereotactic breast biopsy in one location. In addition, the close proximity facilitates a shorter wait time for our patients from the first sign of a suspicious area in the breast to treatment. The Breast Care Center is accredited by the American College of Radiology, and all images are interpreted by board-certified radiologists.
Frankfort Regional Medical Center has acquired a new digital mammography system that enables its physicians to detect and diagnose breast cancer in patients with confidence. The innovative digital system provides outstanding image quality and clear, highly detailed images of the breast. Frankfort Regional's new Senographe® DS full-field digital mammography system acquired from GE Healthcare is the one of the most modern pieces of mammography equipment available to patients today.
The Senographe DS is a full-field digital mammography system designed to help Frankfort Regional Medical Center provide comprehensive mammography patient care - from screening and diagnosis, to interventional procedures. Plus, the system has a patient-centric design and intuitive controls that allow the technologists who perform the exams to focus on the patients, making the mammogram a comfortable and easy experience. For the physician, it provides greater flexibility in viewing the exam and performing biopsies.
The hospital also has a computer-aided detection system for mammography. The ImageChecker® is the first F-D-A approved system of its kind to assist radiologists in the reading of mammograms, pointing out areas of interest that might otherwise go undetected. This revolutionary technology aids radiologists with earlier detection of breast cancers.

Investment in State-of-the-Art Technology
Mammography, ultrasound, or stereotactic breast biopsy - a technologically advanced device being used for the early detection of breast cancer. This technology provides women with an alternative to open surgical breast biopsy. Some of the benefits of this type of biopsy:
Available as an outpatient procedure, the entire procedure takes 20-30 minutes and women can return to work or normal activities the same day. It requires only a small incision in the skin, about 1/16 of an inch. No stitches are required and scars, if any, are extremely tiny.
Anesthetic can be delivered into the tissue from the tip of the probe to reduce any discomfort. The probe needs to be inserted only once. It can obtain multiple specimens without having to be repeatedly removed and reinserted.
Frankfort Regional Medical Center is proud to offer the Mammotome Breast Biopsy System, a technologically advanced device being used for the early detection of breast cancer. This technology provides women with an alternative to open surgical breast biopsy.
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, exceeded only by lung cancer. Biopsy is the only way to tell if an abnormality is cancerous. Biopsies allow for the diagnosis of breast cancer at its earliest, most treatable stage. If detected early, breast cancer can often be treated effectively with surgery that preserves the breast. Five years after diagnosis, more than 90% of women who found breast cancer at its earliest stage are alive and well.
This breast biopsy procedure requires only a local anesthetic to the skin and a single insertion of a special probe to remove the sample tissue. It minimizes the removal of surrounding healthy tissue and virtually eliminates any pain or scarring from the procedure. The biopsy procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis.
Stereotactic breast biopsy has the ability to accurately sample tiny abnormalities in the breast called microcalcifications making early diagnosis of breast cancer easier.
